I'm Bout To Hook You Up If You Don't Know!

OK. So Urban Species is this extremely tight design company. They are churning out some of the best work for graffiti clothing, sneaks, and caps I have seen. The styles they use definitely vary, but its street credibility is definitely still alive. If I saw their work thrown up on the side of a building, I'd be cheering. Although they aren't the first, they have brought creativity and style to a long loved medium.

Check them out on line and order at:

Now I Know Philly Loves A Pair Of ACGs!

They're fly and ready for the summer! Now usually I'm all about white with color in the summer when it comes to colorways. But be sure I will pull these out for a trip across country borders and swing it with some international swagger. These sneaks are boss on the calm.
As part of the Nike Summer 2009 Collection comes this new Wildpeg ACG. The ACG line has seen lots of strong releases in recent months and it does not seem to stop. The Wildpeg ACG comes in black with blue, neon yellow and dark red accents. The upper comes mixed in leather and nylon and the contrasting stitching is another nice detail. The sneaker is now available at Eastwestworldwide.

Lacoste Stealth Summer 2009 Collection

New footwear from the Lacoste Stealth Summer 2009 Collection has been released. The drop includes new colorways of the Cabestan Cup boat shoe inspired sneaker, the Sakado low top sneaker and the new Missouri 85 Mid. We especially like the salmon colors in the release.
The new Lacoste sneakers are now available at Flauge.

Dat Kid From Cleveland Better Keep Dreamin ON! It's Coming True

Now below you will find what hypebeast thought they should say about Kid Cudi, read it. But I feel like he's giving me what I need... to a certain extent. I just want just a lil more. Right now, he sounds like Kanye's protege. Like he's the singer Ye wished he could be. Truth. However, my favorite trak is Poker Face, due to Common and Look Up In The Stars w/ Wale, that song is just fire and 09 Freestyle-- the flow is fly as hell! You be your own judge. They're some worthy tracks on this mixtape like Buggin Out 2009 and Sky Might Fall. I can't till I get a full album. I want to see where he goes. But for now, I'll be bangin while I clean my house and work. xo, be

Mixtapes have always been important in Hip Hop. However, in recent years they have moved from freestyles over rehashed beats with DJs screaming over the verses to virtually album quality music. Now, MCs use the format to establish a buzz, intensify that buzz and in some cases pave the road to super stardom. Since Kid Cudi hooked up with Kanye’s G.O.O.D Music his buzz has been deafening with the release of his stoner anthem Day N’ Nite . The Cleveland MC seeks to capitalize on this as well as prove his worth with the release of his new mixtape aptly titled Dat Kid From Cleveland. The mixtape includes some tracks that you may have heard before such as, the sexual innuendo laced collaboration with Kanye and Common “I Poke Her Face” and the Transformers 2 theme song “Sky Might Fall”. There are also new tracks, skits and freestyles that you will hear for the first time. While the mixtape title shows a bit of modesty, soon Cudi will be known as more then just a kid from Cleveland.

London, 100 Ladies, Beyonce, You do the Math. You Single Bitches Are Killing It!

I thought this was fantastic, and honestly I'm not a big fan of the song. You want a ring, buy yo own damn ring or wait till I'm ready. But hey these chicas are doing their thang!

So Ugly... That These Kicks Are Fly!

Atmos once again worked with Reebok on an exclusive Pump Omni Lite release. This time they played with the polka dots and gave the upper a purple suede, mixed with lime accents and white leather. A multicolor polka dot patterns appears on most of the upper, as well as the in-sole. The Atmos logo is embroidered on the heel.
The Atmos x Reebok Pump Omni Lite “Polka Dots” is now available in limited quantities at the
Kix-Files online store.

I know it's been some time since I blogged, a week to be exact. But I had to start it off with one of my favorite things to crush on. SNEAKERS! Welcome back, if you've missed my insane adding of new material everyday. And my sincerest apologies. But life get's busy and then I miss my blogging. Sad... but check it, maybe it gave you some time to find something that I might want to crush on. xoxo, Benni

Pirates VS. Europe and The US Navy

I think it is imperative that we learn about the events that led to the kidnapping of an American citizen on the high seas. Why did this happen? Who is responsible? What are we doing as an international community to help the people of Somalia?

By Susie Madrak

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 6:30am

In 1991, the government of Somalia collapsed. Its nine million people have been teetering on starvation ever since – and the ugliest forces in the Western world have seen this as a great opportunity to steal the country's food supply and dump our nuclear waste in their seas.
Yes: nuclear waste. As soon as the government was gone, mysterious European ships started appearing off the coast of Somalia, dumping vast barrels into the ocean. The coastal population began to sicken. At first they suffered strange rashes, nausea and malformed babies. Then, after the 2005 tsunami, hundreds of the dumped and leaking barrels washed up on shore. People began to suffer from radiation sickness, and more than 300 died.
Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the UN envoy to Somalia, tells me: "Somebody is dumping nuclear material here. There is also lead, and heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury – you name it." Much of it can be traced back to European hospitals and factories, who seem to be passing it on to the Italian mafia to "dispose" of cheaply. When I asked Mr Ould-Abdallah what European governments were doing about it, he said with a sigh: "Nothing. There has been no clean-up, no compensation, and no prevention."
At the same time, other European ships have been looting Somalia's seas of their greatest resource: seafood. We have destroyed our own fish stocks by overexploitation – and now we have moved on to theirs. More than $300m-worth of tuna, shrimp, and lobster are being stolen every year by illegal trawlers. The local fishermen are now starving. Mohammed Hussein, a fisherman in the town of Marka 100km south of Mogadishu, told Reuters: "If nothing is done, there soon won't be much fish left in our coastal waters."
This is the context in which the "pirates" have emerged. Somalian fishermen took speedboats to try to dissuade the dumpers and trawlers, or at least levy a "tax" on them. They call themselves the Volunteer Coastguard of Somalia – and ordinary Somalis agree. The independent Somalian news site WardheerNews found 70 per cent "strongly supported the piracy as a form of national defence".
No, this doesn't make hostage-taking justifiable, and yes, some are clearly just gangsters – especially those who have held up World Food Programme supplies. But in a telephone interview, one of the pirate leaders, Sugule Ali: "We don't consider ourselves sea bandits. We consider sea bandits [to be] those who illegally fish and dump in our seas." William Scott would understand.
Did we expect starving Somalians to stand passively on their beaches, paddling in our toxic waste, and watch us snatch their fish to eat in restaurants in London and Paris and Rome? We won't act on those crimes – the only sane solution to this problem – but when some of the fishermen responded by disrupting the transit-corridor for 20 per cent of the world's oil supply, we swiftly send in the gunboats.

Admiring The Admirals...

When I saw these, I believed I liked them because they are the style of sneak I enjoy the most. This simple colorway approach has actually enhanced the beauty of the design. Also I'm glad these designers blended and collaborated with DC Life, because they brought some urban elegance to the sneaker. It's great! I want a pair of these. Don't you?

A certain So-Cal retailer has blended something up with DC LIFE to include custom laces and insoles : Introducing the DC LIFE Admiral for BLENDS.

The inspiration came from the Japanese heritage of the two owners. Having grown up in Japan, Mike Toe and Tak Kato wanted to incorporate something familiar from their youth and incorporate the design, look, and feel that BLENDS is known for. With this, Mike and Tak designed the interior graphics based off traditional Japanese playing cards and the white exterior is reminiscent to the “less is more” approach that BLENDS brings to retail.

The custom Admiral is available now at BLENDS retail locations below (I'm listing in case you travel or you live in these areas):

It's Tawiah. Have You Heard Her? I Just Did. It's Sharing Time...

So its been a great music finding day today. With the sunshine streaming through my office windows, I've had time to daydream while listening to everyone from Waajeed to Alice Smith. In the middle was this lovely young lady.

After her debut album “In Jodi’s Bedroom” took everyone by surprise in 2008, Tawiah is returning alongside Zed Bias on this new dubstep inspired soul track entitled “Further Away”. The track will be released on Zed Bias’ own label Sidestepper records. Heavy Tune!!

Tawiah was born in Battersea and is a former member of the Brit School peforming academy in London. Tawiah's soul stylings have caught the attention of producers such as Mark Ronson, having toured as part of his live band. She has also sung back up for Corinne Bailey Rae and The Guillemots.

Exclusive Supra!! You Know I Was Excited!

You don't need my commentary. You see this sneaker. Ok.

...spotted this exclusive Vaider at select retailers such as Premier.
It contains a predominately blue mesh upper with black accents on the tongue, toe area amongst other place. It also possesses grey mesh on the side panels and heel area. To finish it off, this shoe is complimented with a white rubber sole. Is this one of the better colorways seen on the Supra Vaider? (courtesy of nice kicks)

Ok so if you read my blog, you know I'm in love with all things rare, surreal, and beautiful. So when I saw this I knew I had to share it. So, if you're going to be in Paris between now and May 30 check out this woman's work. If not (like me) you can check her out by google or wallpaper.com

One of the most significant pioneers of the art and design fusion movement is Dutch designer Hella Jongerius. Working from her studio, Jongeriuslab in Rotterdam, Jongerius’s work is a culmination of technological experimentation, craftsmanship and general innovation. Opening this month In Paris’s Galerie Kreo, her latest solo exhibition looks set to offer a glimpse into the Dutch didact’s creative vision.

This summer, Nike Sportswear chose to remix Nike materials within the Nike Sportswear collection with legendary French textile designer Paule Marrot Editions. Once loved by the British royal family and Jackie Kennedy, Paule Marrot Editions has been creating memorable designs since 1920. Paule Marrot’s textiles were heavily influenced by Marrot’s early studies as a painter under impressionists such as Pierre-August Renoir, Raoul Dufy and Maurice Denis.

The pack consists of two Dunk Hi Skinny Supremes, one coming in pink glaze/white, the other one in black/mist-blue white. Today we can give you a preview of the pink sneaker.

The Paule Marrot versions of the Nike Skinny Dunk Hi will be available at select Nike Sportswear retailers as of this coming weekend.

Can You Pull This Off? I THINK I Can

Oh so you think you got it like that?! For all those sneakerheads and "swagger" freaks, this is something that might very well be up your alley. I'm thinking we did this in the 90's with high top reebok classics and scrunge socks. But this is on another level. So, I don't know if you should rock an OPP jacket with this.

For swagger’s 10th anniversary, the brand looks to drop something basically unheard of with this Nike Sportswear Terminator Hi Supreme collabo. The shoes are deliberately mis-matched and are allegedly inspired by a mint chocolate theme. A release date has yet to be set but you better have your swagger on full-blast to pull these joints off.

Africa's Innovative Solutions to America's Future Problems

Everyday you should stop and think about the world around you. We are all connected and truly need to devise solutions for OUR problems and people.

..just a snippet from the article. Be sure to click on the highlighted title at the end of this post for full article...

In the face of a global economic catastrophe, I’m not paying much attention to the news. “Our leaders” are lying like always. Sure, there’s Big Changes ahead—but scaremongering and cynicism are a waste of precious life. I’m actually more optimistic these days than I’ve ever been, and it’s all because of Africa. The most innovative solutions and inspirational success stories I’ve found are coming from the Mother Continent, and I can’t imagine a better remedy for American Fear than this. No matter what kind of nightmare collapse scenario you can imagine for the United States, Africa has already been there and back.

Africa has insane problems. Most of them are thanks to Europe, the US, and China. From the nightmare captialism of King Leopold to the 5.4 million dead in the wake of the Second Congo War, the connections between First World invasions and ongoing problems is never less than obvious. The second wealthiest nation in the world, Equatorial Guinea, remains a poverty-stricken wasteland despite a GDP of over $12 billion. (Population? Just over 500,000 people, which is smaller than the state of Vermont.)

I should also mention that nearly 75% of all AIDS deaths happened in the southern half of Africa, but I’m done with the brutal facts for the rest of this article. I’m not laundry listing statistics to stun you into helpless depression, just giving a quick overview. I firmly believe that saving the world starts in Africa. I’d like to invert our assumptions and look at things differently—how can problems be opportunities?

Hey Miss, What Time Is It?

It's time we take a look at some of the new Nixon watches for Spring/Summer 2009. Nixon has certainly come a long way and owns a good amount of the market of mid-price watches. They have found a perfect balance between price and quality, offering both timeless and more unique pieces, at a pricepoint that allows you to change seasonal.

We especially like the new colorways of the 4220 PU Chrono divers watch and the new Time Teller. The 4220 Chrono comes in some nice summer colorways and with rubber bracelet. The Time Teller looks great tonal in strong colors. (courtesy of high sobiety)

Paparazzi Everywhere! Strike A Pose!

A while ago Leica released the limited Safari Edition of their flagship M8 model. In time for summer they will be releasing the white edition of the classic beauty. So far the price and release date have not been announced yet, but apparently numbers will be extremely limited on this one, according to Luxist.

Doom Mixes: J Dilla and Thom Yorke

So J Dilla produced this, among many other classics. I've tried very hard not to be a bandwagon jumper when it comes to Dilla. Truly, I have come to respect his work as I learn more about him and his work. Just like everything in life there is time and place for everything. Right now, it's time for J Dilla (RIP), MF Doom, and Thom Yorke.

This mix is done by Thom Yorke and I'm loving it because it shows an evolution of hip hop music. Oh the possibilities!!!! Enjoy.

Check out this documentary!
Bananaz is a documentary on the Gorillaz directed by Ceri Levy. The Gorillaz have often been shrouded in mystery through their use of cartoon persons and unique musical composition. The documentary should be a look into their inspirations and personalities behind the facade they’ve established. It will be released on April 20th on Bablegum.

Ok! Converse I See You!

These are "too cool for school"!
So its been some years since I've seen a Converse that maybe go, Hey you're hot! Its a pretty dope collaboration between Undefeated and Converse. I hope I see these in some new colorways. And High Snobiety is right, this is inspired by the bomber jacket and it is a necessary combination when sporting. Or you can grab an olive members only to rock with them. Ooh.

The Undefeated x Converse Poorman Weapon released in January in a black colorway. Now it returns in olive green, looking even better than the first time around. Replicating the classic nylon bomber jacket used in aviation, the sneaker features an olive green nylon upper and orange lining. The Converse logo tag comes as a velcro tag. The shoes will release on May 16th at Undefeated Chapter Store. Via Hypebeast

Vermont and The Gays!

Vermont lawmakers legalize gay marriage
by: 365gay Newscenter Staff, 365gay.com
Montpelier, VT - Vermont has become the fourth state where same-sex marriage is legal.

The House and Senate on Tuesday overrode Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a marriage bill.

The Republican governor, as expected, nixed the bill Monday night when it arrived on his desk and sent it back to the legislature.

Dozens of gay marriage supporters wearing Freedom to Marry stickers began arriving at the State House early Tuesday morning.

The Senate voted 23-5 to override the veto. It then moved to the House, which voted 100-49 - the exact number needed to override the veto.

While the broad spread in the Senate was predicted, the House vote went down to the wire. Tuesday morning, Democratic leaders said the vote could come down to a single vote, and they were right.

In vetoing the marriage equality bill, Douglas, in a prepared statement, attempted to portray himself as a moderate, putting the blame on the federal defense of marriage law.

"This legislation does not address the inequalities espoused by proponents," the statement said. "Regardless of whether the term marriage is applied, federal benefits will still be denied to same sex couples in Vermont."

Douglas said that the legislation does not provide any additional benefits not already available under Vermont's civil unions law.

Vermont was the first state in the country to legalize civil unions in 2000. Since then, LGBT groups have criticized the law for creating a "two-tiered" system - marriage for opposite-sex couples and civil unions for gays.

The marriage law amends the old civil unions law to allow marriage of same-sex partners beginning Sept. 1. Civil unions, which confer some rights similar to marriage, would still be recognized but no longer granted after Sept. 1.

The law also guarantees that churches would not be obligated to marry same-sex couples.

Vermont now joins Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa with legalized same-sex marriage. Marriage bills also are being considered in Maine and New Hampshire.

Little Brother In Philly. That's What's Good to Crush On!

These cats hail from North Carolina and they've been out for some time now. I lived down there for a little while a few years ago and I must say it's definitely a different era down there compared to up north. The hip hop that comes through speakers feels so infused with the struggle of past cotton picking times and fighting the lingering overt racism of the south. In the time of everyone begging for change, Little Brother comes through with a unique sound, but still can be bumped in your car, late night spot, favorite eatery, while the I don't like hip hop/rap crowd nods their heads and taps their feet. They are a breath of fresh air. It seems like artists from the south are finding their autonomy and freeing themselves and their community is uplifting what they're trying to accomplish. Little Brother is not to be slept on. If you haven't listened to them, check them out tonight or cop their music at your local music store.

PS. Can the Nappy Roots please come do a show in Philly? This has nothing to do with Little Brother, but I just thought about them.

Hallelujah! Iowa lettin the Gays Get Married!

Iowa court says gay marriage ban unconstitutional
By AMY LORENTZEN
The Associated Press

Friday, April 3, 2009; 11:33 AM

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa's Supreme Court unanimously struck down the state's gay marriage ban on Friday, making Iowa the third state where same-sex couples can tie the knot.

In its decision, the court upheld a 2007 district court judge's ruling that the law violates the state constitution. It strikes the language from Iowa code limiting marriage to only between a man a woman.

"The court reaffirmed that a statute inconsistent with the Iowa constitution must be declared void even though it may be supported by strong and deep-seated traditional beliefs and popular opinion," said a summary of the ruling issued by the court.

The ruling set off celebration among the state's gay-marriage proponents.

"Iowa is about justice, and that's what happened here today," said Laura Fefchak, who was hosting a verdict party in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale with partner of 13 years, Nancy Robinson.

Robinson added: "To tell the truth, I didn't think I'd see this day."

Richard Socarides, an attorney and former senior adviser on gay rights to President Clinton, said the ruling carries extra significance coming from Iowa.

"It's a big win because, coming from Iowa, it represents the mainstreaming of gay marriage. And it shows that despite attempts stop gay marriage through right-wing ballot initiatives, like in California, the courts will continue to support the case for equal rights for gays," he said.

It's opponents were equally as dismayed.
"I would say the mood is one of mourning right now in a lot of ways, and yet the first thing we did after internalizing the decision was to walk across the street and begin the process of lobbying our legislators to let the people of Iowa vote," said Bryan English, spokesman for the conservative group the Iowa Family Policy Center.

"This is an issue that will define (lawmakers') leadership. This is not a side issue."

The Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr., pastor at the Maple Street Baptist Church in Des Moines, went to the Supreme Court building to hear of the decision. (if you want to read more, google for rest of article)

Where to Begin With Thom Lessner... So gooood and Obey!

Well I have dreamt of a day where black and white would come together and create graphics that made my heart sing. Well I can say today is the day that I can show you an example of what progress can look like. With this Freddie design on a T Shirt for me and a bicycle no one can stop this queen on a mission for change. Thank you Thom Lessner for bringing this into my life. How wonderful. May your heart soar with warmth and sunshine on this rainy day.

I'm wrestling with the Air Yeezy concept!

Now truth be told, I absolutely LOVE sneakers. If I was rich, I'd be broke, cuz sneakers are serious business. The Air Yeezy's along with sneaks designed for LV have definitely captured my attention. I mean how could they not, it's been posted everywhere to Kanye's fans and his ever so great marketing and press pushes. So what's a woman to do? Spend $215 for a pair of sneaks, because everyone else has them? Or hope that a different color concept comes out, because that's where my issues lie. Granted it looks dope. I think the structure of the sneaker is classic with some modern touches. But the color is throwing me off. Anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely love a colorful sneak. So when these Yeezy's "stepped" on the scene, I was hoping for some real exclusive color schemes. I love Kanye, but the tan colorway looks like a band-aid. I want to sit down with Kanye and talk about this. I love how butch queen he is, but this is not working for me. Maybe after all the hype about this sneak dies down, I'll cop a pair and have them airbrushed. Argh! Sneaker hype. What happened to exclusivity? Anyway, congratulations Kanye on handling your bizness! Keep killing em'
You can cop a pair if the camp out is not too crazy at Ubiq in Philly.

This section courtesy of all smiles:
They are finally here, well almost here. Kayne West's highly anticipated sneak the Nike Air Yeezy's, finally has a release date. This April the Zen Grey/LT Charcoal (middle sneak), should be blessing sneaker boutiques, which should bring a lot of tents camped out UBIQ that weekend. Maybe I'll try to snap some flicks. Regardless keep an eye out for these bad boys.

I Represent Philly, But Detroit Stand Up! This Is Fire!

I love the tracks that make you bop ya head and feel that too cool thug shit. Crush on this with me. Haters get ya paper and leave me alone...

Exit Clov and I'm not goin' To Be In Town, But You Should Go!

I love this write up that uwishunu did on Exit Clov. On my search for new bands (whatever the genre), I came across this delicious indie pop band only a few weeks ago. So imagine my surprise when I go to uwishunu's site and see this. Excitement and a touch of sadness since I won't be in town to attend this event. But you should definitely go and enjoy their on point lyrics. It's actually radio worthy (as in if radio was good, it would play them). Either way, put them in your mp3/4 player and have a dance off with your mirror.

From uwishunu:
When it comes to indie pop (an important topic for sure), my friend Sam and I are kinda obsessed with Exit Clov. Last time we saw them play (December, at Johnny Brenda’s), we spent the whole night dancing in front of the stage, and taking 89797989 photos; afterwards, we bought the EP and argued over who would get to keep it (I won.)

What makes Exit Clov so special? For one, they are probably the most adorable band ever. By which I mean: they are the most adorable band ever. Fronted by twin sisters Emily and Susan Hsu (think Tegan and Sara, only much, much cuter), Exit Clov write tightly woven, infectious pop songs, with videogame beats (à la the Postal Service), delicate harmonies, and a smattering of violin (both sisters are also master violinists.)

Hailing from D.C. (they’re good buddies with Jukebox the Ghost), their songs often dip into the political, with titles like “Moving Gaza,” “Strippers and Politicians” and “Communist BBQ.”

“Quit yer Stalin, go buy yer Che shirts now,” sing the girls on “BBQ,” a dreamy, upbeat dance pop number. Did I mention they also have a sense of humor?

Live, Exit Clov are just are mesmerizing, with spot-on vocals, killer bass grooves, and dynamic guitar and percussion. Catch them live this Sunday, April 5, at Old City’s the Khyber. We promise you’ll be dancing along.

This Will Make You Think Twice! This Shaman Almost Died For This Message

I'm just one person in a world of many. I'm on my way to finding my path and my light. On this journey I think I have questioned almost everything I was taught growing up. Well, my brother from another mother put me on this idea of the Reptilian Agenda. I don't know if this is true or not, but it's kinda of scary if it is. No matter what, always research something before you believe it. At the end of the day everyone has an agenda. And don't go around calling people Reptiles, I don't think they'll like it very much.

Warning! There are a series of 13 videos for this. Its a little dry at first, but once you get into what this shaman is talking about, you'll find it very interesting.

Part 1

Part 2

Music to THINK about!

Listen Up or Ante Up!!!

Ever since I was a youngun I knew I was destined for greatness. I just didn't know what I was going to be great at. Well finally I found my calling. It was rapping. I'm working on the freestyle, but I got this writing down pat. And its all thanks to people like Bahamadia. Because of her, I heard the voice on the stereo that was playing in my mind before I was old enough to listen to hip hop without sneaking it on old walkmans. Long story short, Bahamadia is one of the best female lyricist out there, if you think differently, put somebody up and prove me wrong. I put up this track By King Britt and Bahamadia. Whatchu got?

Crushing on That Gangsta Jump Off...

I love hard ass hip hop. What the hell happened to Canibus??!! He is definitely better than a whole bunch of cats. I guess he didn't come with a clothing line or make enough tracks with half naked chicas. I don't know. But the man needs to come the hell back. Anyway as I was having my dust off the "on the grind, move it" music. Canibus' Def Con Zero with Phoenix popped in my head. Check it out if you never heard it. I loved this I'll run up on you music. Plus if you do community work, sometimes this is how you need to think to get past all the obstacles.

Check out this too!

Mama said She Like Dem Skateboarding Folk

Now people I'm going to keep it real with you I am not the authority on skateboarding in the least. If anything all I really know is that its dope, Chuck Treece who is one of the most amazing drummers does it hella well, and that my friend Nick covered this cat in his blog for Jetty. So there you have it. I think skateboarding is fly along with all of the fashion that comes with it. Now that's where I come in. This might piss off some people who skateboard, I mean no harm, I just love fashion. So you guys are getting got too. From Nike SB to DC sneaks it's a wrap. But I digress, I just wanted you to check out this cool as cat doing his thing and getting recognized for it. Catch the full article at focus mag via jettylife.com

Billy Glatz by J-Bo!
We’re going to stick with the youth theme from yesterday and hit ya with this cool shot of Billy Glatz by photog/skater J-Bo. Billy has been representing Jetty for a few years now and continues to show his skills around the Philly area. J-Bo actually has a nice, little interview on page 34 of the current Focus mag…be sure to pick one up at your local skate shop!

Well I Thought This Was Sweet... Wonder if the Inmate is Crushing Too...

Put Ya Lighters Up or these days your G3 ready touch screen phones up for.... Ms. Frank White!
Ok, we know Ms. Jones doesn't resemble any picture from 1998, but you have to love her nonetheless. Outside of Nicki Minaj who else can I look to for hardcore sex and hood filled (has a unique delivery, whether they wrote it or not) rhymes while their half naked bodies attract the masses. So to Lil Kim, thanks for holding it down for the legal slaves and shouting out the chicks who rocked with you on the inside. Now you're on Dancing With The Stars. Welcome To America. Doesn't get any better than a shoutout while in lockup anyway. Good Look. Philly hoods got you.

Checkout coverage on Philly.com's blog down below:

"She's such a sweetheart and that is one of her best qualities," writes Sydia Bagley, of former Center City resident Lil' Kim. Bagley was incarcerated with the pint-size hip-hop princess at the Federal Detention Center (7th & Arch), where Kim spent 10 months on a perjury rap. We reported recently that Kimberly Jones, as Lil' Kim was known in prison, had given a shout-out to all her girls in the Federal Detention Center, on this season's premiere episode of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." "I want to shout Lil' Kim back out for the unconditional love she shows not only to me but to all the girls," writes Bagley, who is now housed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Conn, for her part in an armed robbery. "We love you, Girl, and you know you got our votes," Bagley says.

I'm crushing on 215mag blog covering the gays... word.

So I think 215mag is fantastic. All of the folks mentioned for their music are dope at what they do. I love my friends dearly, so you know I was excited to see their work mentioned in someone's blog (like 215, I mean Tayyib and his crew hold it down for Philly). Word.
It was posted a couple of months ago, but today was the first time I'd seen it. SO... here it is for you to read and also be excited about.
Sgt Sass is dropping 2 new videos soon.
Shunda K is coming at you with her solo project
CCAA needs to do something to make me happy, but there's PdL music
Oh, and the song that KD and DT of Sgt Sass did with Chris and Joe of CCAA is called UDLRLR, it's a play on ol school video games and their controls and these dudes killed it. "Don't be mad your mom looks like Yoshimitsu" -KD

Gay's make good music

I'm just sayin. Here are three songs that will either A. crack you up or B. make you wanna dance. I promise that either way it'll make your day.

First off there's Yo! Majesty two lesbian rappers (ya kinda have to mention that) whose stage performances are practically r rated by themselves let alone what the audience is doing.
Yo Majesty - Club Action (Partyshank Remix)
YO MAJESTY - Booty Clap

CCAA (Cute cute Awesome Awesome) will make your Vagina Clap, or atleast that's what their lead songs says. This had me cracking up all day.(I won't tell you what i was shakin)
VAGINA CLAP

Sgt. Sass. has worked with CCAA on a song or two actually. Philly lovin all around.

I had the honor and pleasure to perform with some of the folks (Cathy Cathodic, Sgt Sass, Katastrophe, and Athens Boys Choir) that I respect in this thing folks are calling Homo-hop. Although I don't claim that term, I appreciate being placed in that category. This past Friday, March 27th, we all came together to knock out an explosive night of philly queerness on the mic. Everyone definitely has their own style and unique stage presence. Each act built on the next leaving the crowd wanting more and dancing to a late night set thrown by Philly's own DJ Eye V. If you missed this, then you'll want to pay close attention to announcements for Sgt Sass'EP release party with Gang, Shunda K and myself at 941 theater, Homo A Go Go, MondoHomo South, and the Toronto Pride Festival. I'll be putting out info as the dates near. A round of applause and love goes out to Nekid Metropolis and Snak Pak crew and Tritone for having us come through and bless the mic.

God and Michelle Obama Save The Queen

Reuters (AP) covers the story of Michelle Obama touching the Queen of England's back during a meeting during the Obamas trip through Europe. I read the coverage of this event and thought to myself, this is hilarious and is deeper than meets the eye. So now I bring it to you with my own commentary.

I love when I read about dignitaries, royalty, and political celebrities being spoken to or touched out of the norm. They readily invade our mental space everyday through media, while we the commoners are expected to uphold some practice that we didn't have any part of creating. And the crowd should go Booooo! It's like mental fornincation. We're so mind fucked by their "power" that we readily except traditions that have been put in place by people that have oppressed us for centuries. Wonderful.

First, I laughed about Michelle Obama riling up the British press when she touched the Queen. But then I thought about it and realized who are these people that originated these rules (King Henry I killed my wives because they wouldn't give me any sons the 8th) and why do we still carry on these roles of "conduct"? Are most of us mindless sheep and find its easier to be this way?

My boss loves to use the word decorum (I think it makes him feel educated), so I'll enjoy using it too. I think its appropriate for describing the behavior and snottiness of blue blood folk. While I do feel its important to honor culture and ways of life in order to show respect to the people. Some things are primarily about show, and when the press is covering this like Michelle Obama has lost her mind and the old dusty traditionalists are upset. It makes me say come ooonnnn. Ms. Michelle is married to the most "powerful" Black/African American (He really is African American, let's keep it real) man [recognized face of power] in the world. So where does that leave her? Free to touch the queen, I mean the queen touched her first. Anyway I decided to blog and let you figure out what you think, if you feel this is way deeper than a touch on the small of the Queen's back (I could have made that so naughty) or if you even care...

PS. Thankfully an American journalist went to the defense of Ms. Michelle.
Beginning of the story....
The rules are set in stone, and so the eagerly watching British media sputtered when the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, briefly put her hand on the back of Queen Elizabeth II as the two chatted at a reception. Etiquette is quite stern about this ("Whatever you do, don't touch the Queen!"). In 2007 John Howard, then Prime Minister of Australia, got plenty of criticism for apparently putting his arm around the Queen to direct her through a crowd. He denied actually touching her, but photographs suggest that he came quite close. (Another former Australian Prime Minister did put his hand on the Queen in a similar circumstance and was later branded "the Lizard of Oz.")

Surf into Spring w/ a KITE!!!

So I think that surfing, skateboarding, biking, all that extreme, grab life by the cahones sports are dope. I'm totally crushing on this for the summer. My chunky behind might get out there and do something. Maybe. Don't judge or quote me. Anywho. I thought this was quite relaxing, it made me think of doobies and daquiris beach side. Oh and beautiful sun. Watch and enjoy!
